20 Motalava participants join ICT training in remote skills push

Twenty participants on Motalava Island are currently taking part in an ICT training program delivered by Pacific Australia Skills in what is being described as an important step in bringing digital learning opportunities to remote communities.

The training officially opened this week and includes two core units designed to strengthen digital literacy skills.

ICT Certificate 4 trainer at the Vanuatu Institute of Technology, Abraham Vatean, says the first unit focuses on basic computing.

He says participants are being taught the fundamentals, including how to switch a computer on and off, understand desktop features, and use a keyboard.

The second unit focuses on internet use, reflecting the fast-growing digital environment people now live in.

Mr Vatean says the training covers how to search for information online, make online purchases, and send emails.

One participant, Lenorah Womel, who works as a teacher, says the training will greatly assist her classroom work.

She says she wants to improve her ability to type letters, download documents, and complete school-related tasks on a laptop.

Most participants in the training are secondary school students who are eager to improve their computing knowledge to support their educational journey.

This is the first time an ICT training of this kind has been hosted in a remote area like Motalava, and participants have responded positively, expressing hope for more training opportunities in the future.
