Wan Smolbag Theatre will be hosting another open chess tournament this coming weekend at Lycée français, welcoming all interested participants to take part.
The purpose of the tournament is to identify new local chess players who could represent Vanuatu at the Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan next year, scheduled for September 2026.
VBTC News understands that the Vanuatu Chess Federation already has players who have achieved Fide ratings, following their participation in the last Olympiad held in Hungary.
This weekend’s tournament aims to bring in more new talent and earn Blitz ratings by encouraging interested individuals to join the Federation.
Currently, Vanuatu has 13 rated chess players, with top player scores reaching over 1,000 points.
