The Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu Women’s Cricket Team is a unique presence in world cricket, according to Vanuatu Cricket Association CEO, Tim Cuttler. His remarks come as the team prepares for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Abu Dhabi, with a majority of players currently based in Australia under the Icomply employment program.
“It’s an exciting year for Vanuatu cricket, especially after making history by reaching the World Cup qualification stage,” Cuttler said.
Of the 15-member squad, eight players are currently in Australia under the Icomply program, a system that has seen many of Vanuatu’s top cricketers take up seasonal work opportunities overseas. Both the men’s and women’s teams are now largely made up of players engaged in such programs.
Additionally, national team stars Selena Solman and Rachel Andrew are playing club cricket in Australia, further strengthening their competitive experience ahead of the qualifiers.
Looking toward 2025, Cuttler indicated that selection will consider players across Icomply and other seasonal employment programs, ensuring the best possible team composition.
Meanwhile, women’s head coach Joshua Rasu, who is also based in Australia, will continue leading the team through upcoming international tournaments.
Vanuatu is currently ranked 32nd in the ICC Women’s T20 world rankings, and with several major international tournaments ahead, the team is actively preparing while also seeking additional funding to sustain its programs and address key development areas.
The women’s team remains focused on strengthening their preparation for the upcoming international cricket season.
