Vanuatu Sports Commission, which falls under the Ministry of Youth Development Training and Sports, presented its dividend of VT10 million to the Government (Ministry of Finance and Economic Management) this week.
A ceremony was held at Korman Stadium on April 17th, and in his opening remarks, the Minister responsible for Youth and Sports, Hon. Tomker Netvunei acknowledged the Government for its wavering support to the Sports Commission.
“As for our facilities, they no longer withstand natural disasters, but I understand that there is already a plan in place with the Commission on this matter,” Minister Netvunei raised this during the presentation this week.
The Prime Minister, Hon. Charlot Salwai Tabimasmas, was present on behalf of the Minister of Finance, thanking the Vanuatu Sports Commission and the Ministry responsible for giving back to the Government and the continuous support received.
“The Ministry of Youth and Sports is small but has a big responsibility because it represents a population of youth in this country.
“And it has been paid off today, but I understand that every sports discipline has their plans and aspirations ahead,” PM says.
Minister Netvunei presented a cheque worth VT10 million vatu to PM Salwai and the staff of the Ministry of Finance who were present at the ceremony.
The Vanuatu Sports Commission Director, Trevor Toka, told VBTC Sports that the commission started this dividend in 2021.
“Just after we started, we paid our first contributions last year 2023, an amount of VT5 million, and this year we had a big increase up to VT10 million.
“Now we are trying to make this an annual thing where we will submit every year with different figures,” Toka says.
After the dividend has been paid off, the Sports Commission will start preparing for 2025 contributions.
