National Digital Week officially opens today at Unity Park in Luganville, extending the usual ICT Day celebration into a four-day event. This expansion follows positive public and business feedback from the 2021 National ICT Day, which prompted the organizing committee to broaden this year’s program.
Preparations began last week, leading up to today’s launch. John Jack, Acting Director of the Department of Communication and Digital Transformation and Chair of the Organizing Committee, told VBTC News that three major events will be held throughout the week:
“The e-Commerce Symposium, Consumer Rights Day, and National ICT Day are the three key events.”
This year’s focus is on Equity in Digital Transformation.
“This journey began during the COVID-19 period when our ability to move around was restricted. That experience reminded us we are a nation of islands, but we can still do business using digital communications,” said Mr. Jack.
He emphasized Sanma Province’s growing role in the national economy and the importance of hosting the event there.
“We’ve declared Sanma an economic hub. Digital transformation and ICT are vital to our economy, and over these four days, we believe people will learn a great deal.”
The theme for this year’s National Digital Week is: “Innovate Today, Sustain Tomorrow.”
