The Public Service Commission (PSC) has recalled all senior executive officers, including Director Generals, Directors, Managers, Human Resources Officers, and Finance Officers, from leave to aid recovery efforts following the December 17 earthquake in Port Vila.
The directive, issued in a circular dated January 3, 2025, was approved during the PSC’s emergency meeting on December 31, 2024. It requires all affected personnel who have been on leave since December 17 to return immediately to their duties. While previously approved leave will not be compensated, it can be taken at a later date.
The PSC emphasized that failure to comply would result in disciplinary action for insubordination. The measure is intended to ensure a coordinated and efficient response to the ongoing recovery challenges.
The 7.4 magnitude earthquake caused extensive damage, placing significant pressure on government resources. The recall of senior officials aims to bolster recovery operations and provide critical support for relief and rebuilding efforts.
The PSC highlighted the importance of collaboration among public sector leaders to address the nation’s needs during this period of recovery.
