Vanuatu swimmer Loane Russet has placed 4th in her heat at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, while also setting a new national record in the women’s 50-metre butterfly.
Russet clocked a time of 30.69 seconds, improving on her own previous national record of 31.59 seconds set earlier this year in Australia.
The Singapore championships mark another milestone for Russet, who has represented Vanuatu at various regional youth championships and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
She achieved multiple personal bests at the event, outperforming her timings from earlier competitions this year.
Last month at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau, Russet was part of the Vanuatu women’s team that finished 3rd overall a historic achievement for Vanuatu aquatics.
Officials say Russet’s results reflect the growing success of development programs and scouting efforts in schools to identify young swimming talent across the country.
Looking ahead, Russet is expected to participate in more international meets, as preparations also begin for the 2027 Pacific Games in Tahiti.
In addition to her butterfly event, Russet also recorded a strong time in the 100-metre freestyle, placing 4th in her heat and 70th overall among international competitors.
