iCount, Erakor qualify for Presidents Cup quarter-finals

iCount Yatel Football Club and Erakor Golden Stars Football Club have secured places in the quarter-finals of the first-ever Port Vila Football Association (PVFA) Presidents Cup tournament.

The qualification follows their second group matches in Group A played last weekend, as 12 clubs continue competing across four groups to determine the inaugural Presidents Cup champion.

The tournament is proudly sponsored by the New Zealand High Commission, with support from the Independence Committee.

PVFA President Harry Atison told VBTC Sports that two important matches are scheduled for today as teams continue fighting for qualification.

“Presidents Cup of Port Vila, proudly sponsored by the New Zealand High Commission with support from the Independence Committee, will kick off again today and there are two big matches taking place. One is between Galaxy FC and Ifira Black Bird at Port Vila Stadium at 3pm, and the other is between Tafea FC and United Malampa, which is expected to take place at Freshwota Stadium or Korman Stadium at 3pm.”

Mr Atison said following the remaining group matches, the quarter-final line-up for the Presidents Cup 2026 will be confirmed.

“The only information to the public now is that two teams have already qualified for the quarter-finals, and those teams are iCount Football Club and Erakor Golden Star Football Club. After today’s matches and tomorrow’s match, the quarter-finals will be set for the Presidents Cup 2026.”

The tournament continues this week as clubs compete for a place in the knockout stages of the competition.
