Galaxy FC is one win away from reaching the OFC Men’s Champions League Grand Final when they face Central Coast FC in the semi-final on Wednesday.
The Vanuatu champions booked their place in the last four after finishing on top of Group B with a perfect nine points from three matches.
Galaxy opened their campaign with a 4-1 victory over Rewa FC before defeating Papua New Guinea’s Lae City FC 3-1.
They completed the group stage with a dominant 7-1 win over Tupapa Maraerenga.
Brazilian striker Willian Dos Santos Medina starred throughout the group stage, making history after scoring a hat-trick in each of Galaxy’s three matches.
The achievement makes Medina the first player to score three hat-tricks in three consecutive group-stage matches in the OFC Men’s Champions League.
Galaxy’s focus has now shifted to the semi-final, with the team’s head coach urging the players to put their group-stage success behind them and concentrate fully on the next challenge.
“Keep believing in the team. We are ready and prepared for the semi-final. I also want to thank all our fans in Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Fiji and overseas. Keep supporting us and we will do our very best in this semi-final.”
Central Coast FC qualified from Group A after securing a 2-0 victory over AS Tiga Sport in their final group-stage match.
A win for Galaxy FC would send the Vanuatu champions into the Grand Final and mark another historic milestone for Vanuatu football.
Galaxy FC will face Central Coast FC on Wednesday at 6pm local time.
