The Ministry of Health has reported more than 19,000 cases of influenza across Vanuatu since January this year.
In September alone, the Ministry recorded nearly 400 cases of the illness.
Shefa Province recorded the highest number of cases, accounting for 44 percent, followed by Sanma with 23 percent, Tafea with 13 percent, and Penama with 12 percent.
Despite the increase in cases, the Ministry of Health says there has been no declaration of an outbreak.
The Ministry says monitoring has been strengthened, with continued disease surveillance and laboratory testing to track the situation across the country.
Public urged to take precautions
The Ministry of Health is advising the public to continue practicing basic health and safety measures to help prevent a further increase in influenza cases.
People are encouraged to wash their hands regularly, cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and maintain distance from others when feeling unwell.
The Ministry also advises people who develop flu-like symptoms to seek medical attention, while taking extra care to protect young children and older people, who may be more vulnerable to complications from the illness.
The Ministry is urging the public to remain vigilant and continue practicing these preventive measures as health authorities monitor influenza cases across the country.
