Vanuatu’s senior men’s national football team is in a strong position to reach the Grand Final of the MSG Prime Ministers Cup after a 4–1 win over New Caledonia in Suva, Fiji.

The victory leaves Vanuatu at the top of the men’s standings with seven points from four matches.

Tonny Kaltak, Joe Moses, Taman Roqara and Azariah Soromon scored for Vanuatu in the win over New Caledonia.

Solomon Islands are currently second with five points, while Fiji have four points. Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia have three points each.

The final round-robin matches will be played on September 30, with Fiji facing New Caledonia and Solomon Islands taking on Papua New Guinea.

With seven points and a strong goal difference, Vanuatu remains in a strong position to reach the Grand Final for the second consecutive time.

Women’s team also in contention

Vanuatu’s women’s team is also in contention for a place in the Grand Final.

The team opened its campaign with a 1–1 draw against Solomon Islands before recording a 1–0 win over Fiji and a 5–0 victory over New Caledonia.

Vanuatu finished its campaign with seven points.

Papua New Guinea currently lead the women’s standings with nine points after a 2–0 win over Vanuatu.

Solomon Islands are on seven points and still have one match remaining against Papua New Guinea.

That match will determine which team joins Papua New Guinea in the women’s Grand Final.
