The Solomon Islands government has been thrown into turmoil after the sudden resignation of 12 Cabinet ministers.
A dramatic move that has crippled half of the country’s ministries and exposed deep fractures at the heart of power.
According to PACNEWS, the mass walkout was driven largely by members of the People’s First Party signaling a government in collapse and has left Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele struggling to maintain control.
Report stated that the resignations triggered a broader political shift, with a total of 19 ministers and backbenchers abandoning the ruling coalition to join forces with opposition and independent MPs.
The breakaway group now claims a 28-seat bloc, enough to mount a serious challenge to Manele’s government.
The crisis has escalated further with a formal motion of no confidence against Manele now before Parliament.
Currently in its mandatory seven-day notice period, the motion can be debated from March 24 once Parliament reconvenes, setting up a high-stakes confrontation that could unseat the Prime Minister.
