The Melip Multi-Purpose Hall in South West Bay, Malekula, costing over 2 million vatu, was opened recently.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrew Napuat, together with community elders, officially opened the new hall.
“If we continue to stand together, support the government, and work together, there will be no challenge too big that we cannot overcome , we can win it,” he said.
The multi-purpose hall comes with a water tank.
“I am launching the rainwater catchment to benefit the people,” the Minister added.
The Area Administrator of South West Malekula, Gerald Tamau, told VBTC News that the hall will greatly support the community.
“I believe this will help a lot. In the past, we experienced flooding and other issues, and this hall is built well. There are around 6–7 buildings in Melip that cannot serve everyone, but this is big enough for a population of around 256,” he said.
The multi purpose hall will also serve as an Evacuation center in times of disaster
