PM Napat Urges Media to Report Truth, Stay Independent

Prime Minister Hon. Jotham Napat has stated that media houses must consistently report true and accurate information.

Hon. Napat made these remarks during the VBTC Awards Night over the past weekend.

He called on the President of the Media Association of Vanuatu to bring media outlets together and be ready with regulations to guide media houses in their reporting.

Hon. Napat emphasized that Parliament expects to see this bill presented soon.

“I want to make an appeal for every media outlet to start working on a new regulation on how to regulate our media. This is not to stop media; it is about developing our media with guiding principles, journalist ethics, and to continue being the voice with proper regulation. I want this to happen as soon as possible in our next Parliament sitting.”

Hon. Napat also called on every journalist to remain independent from politics and not take sides in their reporting.

“I want to make an appeal to CEOs and journalists at VBTC to provide accurate information. I am a strong advocate of media. At the moment you start to give wrong information, you are my number one enemy.”
