The Vanuatu Government will introduce changes to the country’s ICT legislation in the next sitting of Parliament, Prime Minister Jotham Napat confirmed yesterday.
Speaking at the opening of the National ICT Development Committee meeting in Port Vila, the Prime Minister said social media abuse particularly on Facebook remains one of the biggest challenges facing the sector.
“I am fully aware that the Government will pass some changes to ICT legislation in the coming Parliament. One of the challenges we see today is the different abuses happening on social media. It is alarming, and I hope that with the revival of this committee and the support of operators, we can address it,” Napat said.
ICT experts at the meeting also discussed broader issues of regulation, infrastructure, and opportunities to strengthen digital development across Vanuatu.
More to come.
