Gideons Gear Up for OFC Cup in Fiji

The Vanuatu national Gideons Futsal team will leave the country next week for Fiji.

They will compete in the OFC Futsal Men’s Cup, which will happen this month.

Preparation has been going full swing in the past weeks, and this week the national Gideons team is finishing their final preparations before flying out next week.

This week, at a small venue in Port Vila, the boys from Tito Quai played final friendly matches with Vanuatu’s champion futsal club, Southern Legend FC.

VBTC Sports spoke with Tito Quai, the national senior head coach of the Vanuatu Gideons team, who said the squad is looking forward to the competition.

Tito Quai, head coach of the national Gideons team:
“I have confidence, and in this tournament we will try our best to change the story for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.”

Mr. Quai also talked about the selection ready to represent Vanuatu at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

Tito Quai added:
“We are starting the new phase of the World Cup in 2028, and in the past 3 years with this team, a lot of things need improvement, a lot of things to correct. The main vision is to see what worked in the past, what did not work, so we will use this tournament to adjust the team to produce the best result.”

The Vanuatu national Gideons team will play their first official match on 20 September against host country Fiji.

The second match for Vanuatu will be on 22 September against Solomon Islands, and on 23 September against Tuvalu.

The last match for Vanuatu will be against New Zealand on 24 September.

The tournament is to find the champion of the competition.
