Leaders Party Leads in Unofficial Results for 4 Provincial Elections

Unofficial results from the recent provincial elections show the Leaders Party of Vanuatu taking an early lead across four provinces.

In the Tafea Province, the Leaders Party is leading with 6 winning candidates, followed by the Union of Moderate Parties (UMP) with 4 candidates.
Vanua’aku Party (VP) and Ik Mine Io Movement each have 3 seats, while the Iauko Group has secured 2 seats.
One independent candidate has also won a seat in the Tanna Constituency.
There are a total of 19 seats on the Tafea Provincial Council.

In Shefa Province, the VP is currently leading with 6 candidates, UMP follows with 3, VPDP and RMC with 2 each, and TGP, Laverwo, GJP, Iauko Group, and LPV have 1 candidate each.

In Penama Province, unofficial results show the Iauko Group in the lead with 4 winning candidates, followed by Reunification Movement for Change and Rural Development Party with 3 each, National United Party with 2, and VP, GJP, Laverwo, and Ngwasoanda Custom Movement with 1 each.
Penama has a total of 16 provincial seats.

In Malampa Province, the Leaders Party is ahead with 7 winning candidates, followed by the Rural Development Party (RDP) with 4, RMC with 3, and VP, UMP, GJP with 2 each. The Iauko Group has 1 seat.
Malampa holds 21 provincial seats.

By-Election Results:

In the Santo Constituency by-election (Sanma Province), the RMC candidate has secured the vacant seat.

In the Port Vila Municipal by-election for the Freshwota/Tassiriki Ward, the Vanua’aku Party (VP) candidate has won the seat.


Official Results Expected Next Week

Principal Electoral Officer, Guilain Malessas, confirmed to VBTC News that the official results for all elections will be announced next week.

He said vote counting begins today, starting with Efate and the Freshwota/Tassiriki Ward in Port Vila.

Mr. Malessas also confirmed that the RVS Sokomanu vessel is currently in remote areas of Santo to collect ballot boxes. It will continue on to Malampa, Penama, and the Shepherd Islands before returning to Port Vila.
