2. VBTC mission
The Vanuatu Broadcasting & Television Corporation (VBTC) is Vanuatu’s only public service broadcaster. Its
mission is to deliver content that informs, educates and entertains all Ni Vanuatu citizens through radio,
television and online services. VBTC aims to reach and respond to citizens through the provision of public interest media and discussion, and through this, meet its obligation to reinforce the Vanuatu identity.
The overall role of VBTC staff is to work together with respect and integrity to deliver content and services. Every employee has a responsibility to contribute to the vibrancy and health of VBTCs work culture through their expertise, capabilities and responsiveness to daily tasks.
3. Job Purpose/summary
The Digital First team will lead VBTC’s digital transformation initiatives. This role is pivotal in driving the
company’s digital strategy, ensuring that all processes, products, and services are optimized for a digital-first approach. This is a role that will enhance the audience reach and engagement of VBTC’s broadcasts through delivery of content, social media and moderated audience interactions via digital platforms offered by the Corporation. The goal of the Digital First team is to amplify the reach and impact of VBTC’s content across all VBTC’s online platforms both domestically and internationally.
By providing strategic and technical expertise, the Digital First team will be responsible for development and
implementation of best practice highly standardised multimedia productions and distributions for the VBTC.
Reporting to the Head of Content, the Digital First Team will ensure that all of the VBTC’s digital content and
online audience engagement offerings are in line with the Corporation’s content strategy.
4. Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Digital Strategy Development:
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive digital strategy that aligns with the company’s goals.
- Work closely with Editor News & Sport, EP Radio and EP Television on a daily basis to leverage a mix of traditional and social media platforms to distribute relevant content on a provincial and national level.
- Suggest content, provide insight on which story angles will be most effective to meet online audience expectations, including the translation of content in all. three national languages including Bislama, English and French.
- Work closely with VBTC Commercial to evaluate requests and undertake commissions for client/sponsor multimedia production as part of revenue generating enterprises.
- Contribute to the development of policies that support the VBTC charter and compliance with relevant legislation in relation to current and evolving digital landscape.
- Oversee audience moderation that ensures compliance with relevant policies and community standards in Vanuatu.
Process Optimization:
- Identify and streamline processes to enhance digital efficiency and effectiveness across all departments.
Technology Integration:
- Oversee the integration of new digital tools and platforms, ensuring seamless adoption and utilization.
Monitoring and tracking:
- Maintain analytics relating to digital media usage and interaction of VBTC services and work closely with Head of Content to interpret the relevance of data for the Corporation.
- Undertake presentations to ensure VBTC staff are up to date with trends in digital media and how they could apply to VBTC within available resources and policy standards.
Data Analysis:
- Utilize data analytics to monitor and improve digital performance, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
Customer Experience:
- Enhance the digital customer experience by implementing user-friendly interfaces and ensuring consistent engagement across all digital channels.
Training and Development:
- Conduct training sessions for employees to foster a digital-first mindset and ensure proficiency in new technologies.
Project Management:
- Lead digital projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with strategic objectives.
Innovation:
- Stay abreast of emerging digital trends and technologies, recommending and implementing innovative solutions to maintain a competitive edge.
Leadership and management:
- Provide leadership to a small multidiscipline team, including managing sub-contractors as required to undertake commissioned work as required.
- Supervise digital production staff as well as support the integration and commercialisation of VBTC archives and library services.
- Ensure that archives and library catalogue is maintained effectively for the purpose of content retrieval, licencing and maintenance of a permanent record of content seen to be significant for cultural and historical relevance
Media/Social media:
- Prepare, write, edit or commission a range of audio – visual content as well as social media that enhance therole, trust and engagement of the VBTC with audiences.
Reporting:
- Provide regular reports to Head of Content and CEO ondigital media activity relevant to the VBTC and the overall goals of the Corporation.

- Deep familiarity with Internet culture along with participation in a number of different social media platforms. In-depth understanding of Vanuatu’s changing media, commercial and government policy environment and how to maximise revenue-generating potential for the VBTC.

- Number of production jobs undertaken for Commercial to generate revenue – targets to be set.

- Datasets and analysis provided on performance of VBTC digital platforms and content distribution.
